Literacy and Numeracy Interventions

Warracknabeal Secondary College is committed to ensuring every student achieves success in their learning. Sometimes students can encounter difficulties in recalling (remembering and being able to vocalise) information that they learnt in a previous lesson. The QuickSmart Program aims to teach students skills to recall information, in order to help them build on this information and engage in learning. The QuickSmart Program is used at Years 7 to 9 to assist selected students to improve their ability to remember basic information quickly and accurately, that they already know. This intervention program helps students to successfully engage with higher order thinking tasks, such as forming connections between concepts taught in class, rather than using their working memory to rediscover and decode known basic facts. This program is currently unavailable until further training can be undertaken by suitable staff.
English Essentials - at Years 7 and 8, students have two lessons dedicated to basic skills of English. This foundation compliments the student's capacity to better manage reading and writing tasks across all curriculum areas.
